Division 1 Men run out of steam against Storm

Strathclyde League Division 1

SL Colliers vs Glasgow Storm

October 29th, 2015

The first quarter looked very positive for the Colliers as they came out firing with three consecutive scores from player/head coach Graham Hunter followed by scoring from new signings Aarron Mitchinson and Alex Dobbie.

This was the Colliers first test and game of the season facing a very experienced Storm squad that have now played 6 games in the Scottish National league.

Towards the end of the quarter to Colliers slowly but surely ran out of steam and fell behind as Storm began to take form losing the quarter 17-11.

In the second quarter the Colliers started off strong again with great defence from Chris Davidson and Jay Runga with back to back threes from Hunter. Ross Rankin began to get into the game with two consecutive baskets also.

However again the Colliers began to fall short looking tired as Storm capitalised playing good team basketball.

Young talent Grahame Miller, Adam Cooper and Jed Hawksworth checked in for their first senior men’s game moving up from under 18s last season showing they are valuable additions to the squad with a lot of potential.

The Colliers came out in the second half competing to the end, however it proved the team is not quite where it needs to be at this stage in terms of team chemistry and fitness.

Ross Rankin top scored for the Colliers with 17 points followed by Graham Hunter with 15 points.

FINAL SCORE:   SL Colliers 45 - Glasgow Storm 84

Head Coach Graham Hunter commented: “this was a hard loss after starting off so well, but we have to put it into perspective where we are right now at the start of the season and although the result might not reflect it, we have a good team!”

“You win or you learn and we learned last night from what was working and what was not, we will get back at it on Monday to work on it and move forward to our game on Tuesday against Oatlands.”

The Div 1 Men’s next game is on Tuesday the 3rd of November against Oatlands at Notre Dame Secondary in Glasgow’s West End, 7:40pm tip off.
